(Product Details)

English Version

Zinc 15 mg + D-Biotin 150 micrograms

What is Zinc 15 mg + D-Biotin 150 micrograms?

Zinc 15 mg + D-Biotin 150 micrograms is a dietary supplement, not a medicinal product. Zinc and biotin are essential nutrients involved in cellular metabolism, protein synthesis, and the normal maintenance of skin, hair, and nails. The product is not intended to prevent or treat disease.

Mechanism of Action

Zinc is an essential mineral that acts as a cofactor for numerous enzymes involved in DNA and protein synthesis, cell division, wound healing, and normal immune function.

Biotin (vitamin B7) is a water-soluble vitamin that serves as a cofactor for several carboxylase enzymes involved in carbohydrate, fatty-acid, and amino-acid metabolism.

Biotin deficiency can cause hair loss and dermatological abnormalities; however, evidence supporting biotin supplementation for improving hair growth in individuals without deficiency remains limited.

Antimicrobial Spectrum

None.

This dietary supplement has no antibacterial, antiviral, or antifungal indication.

Pharmacokinetics

Zinc is absorbed through the gastrointestinal tract, with absorption influenced by dietary composition, zinc form, and concurrent nutrient intake.

Biotin is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and functions intracellularly as an enzyme cofactor. Excess water-soluble biotin can be eliminated in urine.

Contraindications

Avoid use in individuals with known hypersensitivity to any ingredient.

The specific product labeling states that children and pregnant women should not consume this product.

Precautions

This product is a dietary supplement and should not be considered a treatment for androgenetic alopecia or other causes of hair loss.

The product provides 15 mg elemental zinc per tablet. Excessive long-term zinc intake may cause copper deficiency. The adult tolerable upper intake level for zinc from food and supplements is 40 mg/day, except when higher doses are used under medical supervision.

Biotin-containing supplements may interfere with certain laboratory tests, and healthcare professionals should be informed before blood testing.

Use During Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

The specific product labeling states that pregnant women should not consume this product.

Use during breastfeeding should be considered in the context of total dietary and supplemental nutrient intake.

Adverse Effects

Zinc supplementation may occasionally cause nausea, gastrointestinal discomfort, vomiting, diarrhoea, headache, or a metallic taste, particularly at higher doses.

Biotin is generally well tolerated, but clinically important laboratory test interference may occur.

Overdose

Excessive zinc intake can cause nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, and headache. Chronic high intake can cause copper deficiency and associated haematological or neurological abnormalities.

Drug Interactions

Zinc can reduce absorption of quinolone and tetracycline antibiotics. The antibiotic should generally be taken at least 2 hours before or 4–6 hours after zinc.

Zinc may also reduce absorption of penicillamine, while prolonged thiazide-diuretic therapy may increase urinary zinc loss.
