(DailyMed)
(DailyMed)
Bethanechol Chloride
(DailyMed)
(MIMS)
(DailyMed)
(DailyMed)

ใช้รักษา acute postoperative nonobstructive urinary retention และ acute postpartum nonobstructive urinary retention
ใช้รักษา neurogenic atony of the urinary bladder with urinary retention หรือภาวะกระเพาะปัสสาวะบีบตัวลดลงจากความผิดปกติของระบบประสาทร่วมกับมีปัสสาวะคั่ง. (MIMS)
(DailyMed)
(DailyMed)

Bethanechol Chloride 10 mg is a direct-acting parasympathomimetic medicine used to stimulate urinary bladder contraction in patients with nonobstructive urinary retention, including postoperative, postpartum, and neurogenic bladder-related urinary retention. It must not be used when mechanical urinary obstruction is present. (DailyMed)
Bethanechol Chloride is a direct-acting cholinergic agonist that primarily stimulates muscarinic receptors.
It increases detrusor muscle tone and contractility, producing a bladder contraction that may initiate micturition and facilitate bladder emptying. It also increases gastrointestinal tone and motility. (DailyMed)
None.
Bethanechol Chloride is not an antibiotic, antifungal, or antiviral medicine and has no direct antimicrobial activity.
Following oral administration, effects may begin within approximately 30 minutes, usually reach a maximum within 60–90 minutes, and persist for approximately 1 hour. (DailyMed)
Bethanechol is a quaternary ammonium compound and therefore does not significantly cross the blood-brain barrier.
Bethanechol Chloride is contraindicated in patients with hyperthyroidism, peptic ulcer disease, latent or active bronchial asthma, pronounced bradycardia or hypotension, vasomotor instability, coronary artery disease, epilepsy, or parkinsonism.
It must also not be used in patients with mechanical gastrointestinal or urinary obstruction, bladder neck obstruction, acute inflammatory gastrointestinal lesions, peritonitis, or other conditions in which increased smooth-muscle activity may be harmful. (MIMS)
In patients with urinary retention, failure of the urinary sphincter to relax while the bladder contracts may promote reflux of urine into the ureters and renal pelvis.
Dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting may occur, particularly when standing up quickly.
Bethanechol should preferably be taken 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals to reduce nausea and vomiting. (DailyMed)
Pregnancy: Human data are limited. Bethanechol should be used during pregnancy only when clearly needed and when the expected benefit outweighs potential risk.
Breastfeeding: It is not known with certainty whether Bethanechol is excreted in human milk. Use should be individualized.
Adverse effects may include abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, excessive salivation, sweating, flushing, headache, and urinary urgency.
Hypotension, reflex tachycardia, lacrimation, and miosis may also occur.
Clinically important reactions include bronchospasm and exacerbation of asthma.
Overdose may produce abdominal discomfort, excessive salivation, sweating, flushing, nausea, vomiting, hypotension, and other cholinergic effects.
Atropine sulfate is the specific antidote for excessive Bethanechol activity and should be administered under medical supervision. (DailyMed)
Particular caution is required with ganglion-blocking agents, as severe hypotension may occur.
Other cholinergic medicines may enhance the effects of Bethanechol, whereas anticholinergic medicines such as atropine antagonize its effects.
