(DailyMed)
(DailyMed)
(DailyMed)
(DailyMed)
(DailyMed)

DailyMed (DailyMed)
Furosemide 40 mg is a potent loop diuretic used to treat edema associated with heart failure, liver disease, or renal disease and may also be used for hypertension. It promotes renal excretion of sodium, chloride, and water. (DailyMed)
Furosemide is a loop diuretic that inhibits sodium and chloride reabsorption primarily in the loop of Henle, with additional effects in the proximal and distal renal tubules.
Following oral administration, diuresis generally begins within approximately 1 hour, peaks within the first 1–2 hours, and lasts approximately 6–8 hours. (DailyMed)
None.
Furosemide is not an antibiotic, antifungal, or antiviral agent and has no direct antimicrobial activity.
The mean oral bioavailability of Furosemide tablets in fasting healthy subjects is approximately 64% relative to intravenous administration.
Furosemide is highly protein bound, predominantly to albumin, with approximately 91–99% plasma protein binding at therapeutic concentrations.
The terminal elimination half-life is approximately 2 hours, and renal elimination is an important route of excretion. (DailyMed)
Furosemide is contraindicated in patients with anuria and in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Furosemide. (DailyMed)
Furosemide is a potent diuretic. Excessive diuresis may cause dehydration, blood-volume reduction, hypotension, and electrolyte depletion.
Serum sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, renal function, and blood pressure should be monitored as clinically appropriate.
Tinnitus and reversible or irreversible hearing impairment have been reported, particularly with high doses, severe renal impairment, rapid intravenous administration, or concomitant use of other ototoxic medicines. (DailyMed)
Pregnancy: Furosemide should be used during pregnancy only when there is a clear medical indication and the anticipated benefit outweighs the potential risk.
Breastfeeding: Furosemide may pass into breast milk, and potent diuresis may reduce milk production in some women. Treatment should therefore be individualized.
Adverse effects may include dehydration, hypokalemia, hyponatremia, hypomagnesemia, hypocalcemia, hypotension, and orthostatic hypotension.
Other reported reactions include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, dizziness, headache, hyperuricemia, hyperglycemia, muscle cramps, and weakness.
Rare but serious adverse reactions include tinnitus, hearing loss, pancreatitis, interstitial nephritis, severe hematologic reactions, Stevens–Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, and anaphylactic or anaphylactoid reactions. (DailyMed)
Overdose may cause dehydration, reduced blood volume, hypotension, electrolyte imbalance, hypokalemia, and hypochloremic alkalosis.
There is no specific antidote. Treatment consists of supportive care and replacement of excessive fluid and electrolyte losses. Hemodialysis does not accelerate Furosemide elimination. (DailyMed)
Concomitant use with aminoglycoside antibiotics or other ototoxic medicines may increase the risk of hearing impairment.
Hypokalemia may increase the risk of digoxin toxicity.
NSAIDs may reduce the diuretic and antihypertensive effects of Furosemide and may increase renal risk in susceptible patients.
Furosemide may reduce renal clearance of lithium, thereby increasing the risk of lithium toxicity.
Furosemide 40 mg
Furosemide 40 mg oral tablets are registered in Thailand according to the Thai FDA database.
Furosemide is indicated for the treatment of edema associated with congestive heart failure, hepatic cirrhosis, and renal disease, including nephrotic syndrome.
It may also be used in adults for the treatment of hypertension, either alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents. (DailyMed)
For edema in adults, the usual initial oral dose is 20–80 mg as a single dose. If required, the same dose may be repeated after 6–8 hours or increased by 20–40 mg until the desired diuretic response is achieved.
For hypertension in adults, the labeled initial dosage is 80 mg daily, usually administered as 40 mg twice daily, with subsequent adjustment according to response.
A 40 mg tablet strength does not mean that every patient should receive 40 mg at the same frequency. Dosage should be individualized according to indication, clinical response, renal function, blood pressure, and electrolyte status. (DailyMed)
Furosemide is a potent diuretic. Excessive doses may cause profound diuresis with severe water and electrolyte depletion. Careful medical supervision and individualized dosing are therefore required. (DailyMed)
Patients should seek medical assessment if they develop severe weakness, marked dizziness, confusion, palpitations, muscle cramps, substantially reduced urine output, or symptoms suggesting hearing impairment.
Store at 20–25°C (68–77°F) in a well-closed, light-resistant container. Exposure to light may cause slight discoloration, and visibly discolored tablets should not be dispensed. (DailyMed)
